We hope that this website will help you to find out more about our aims, ethos and organization. If you are considering our school for your child, we will be delighted to show you round and answer any of your questions.
Since Stoke Row CE School was founded in 1853 it has been closely connected with the Stoke Row village Church of St John the Evangelist. That connection continues to benefit the School, the Church, and the wider community to this day, and many of the school’s activities take place in the Church which has recently been renovated specifically for that purpose. However, the School has always welcomed children of all faiths and none. We are committed to providing an education which is underpinned by Christian values, because we believe that provides the best environment for our children to learn and grow.
Stoke Row CE School is at the heart of Stoke Row village life, and our children are a part of the village community whether or not they live in or near Stoke Row. As well as using the local Church on a daily basis, the School runs events across the village throughout the year, from our annual pancake race on the village green, to discos in the village hall, our summer fair at the pavilion, sports day at the Recreation Ground, to hosting the village’s annual 10k race, which is organised and marshalled by parents of the school.
In 2013 the School is celebrating its 160th anniversary. A lot has changed since 1853 and to help the School set out on its next 160 years, we are working towards a major rejuvenation and modernization of the School’s facilities. To achieve this we will need to obtain substantial capital funding from the Diocese, which has been extremely supportive of our plans so far. We needed to raise 10% of the overall project cost ourselves and in April 2013 achieved our target of £60,000 through the support of parents, pupils, staff and the wider village community. We are now discussing with the Diocese and Oxfordshire County Council how we secure the funding for the project with an aim of starting work in 2014.
